Take a look at this exciting project that The Plant People in Christchurch are working on.
The community reserve and playground located at Longhurst have been completely transformed into a haven for families, walkers, runners and children alike.
Located just minutes away from the heart of Christchurch, with an imposing view of the Port Hills and Southern Alps, Longhurst is a housing development with a difference. Not only does it include a shopping centre, supermarket, public swimming pool, library, bakery and cafes, it also features a community reserve and an imaginative playground.
While the playground equipment was supplied and erected by a specialist in that field, The Plant People handled all of the planting of grass and ground work, the paving of walkways, as well as the build of all of the wooden structures and fences.
A little bit of whimsical fun and a whole lot of imagination went into creating the features in this reserve and park.
Take this interesting crossing over the water way; made of a beam supported by poles, it’s a fairly simple structure that leads to a small island in the middle of the waterway.
The crazy pegs at the edge of the playground path and the wooden boxed seating area or stage provides an area that inspires imaginative play.
While the development at Longhurst is still a work in progress, the reserve and park are complete; delightfully engaging and well worth a visit.
