In conjunction with CERA (Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority), the agency responsible for leading and coordinating the ongoing recovery following the devastating Christchurch earthquakes, The Plant People‘s CERA team have been hard at work in Christchurch’s New Brighton / Bexley areas.
This team heads up the vegetation and maintenance control in one of the Red Zones and, while it’s by no means a glamorous job, it’s a vital one. Left to grow uncontrollably, the long grass is a haven for rodents and a fire hazard in summer, as well as an eyesore for those residents still living in these areas.
The Plant People‘s CERA team mow, weed-eat and spray on a regular rotation, over 1700 sections, a vast tract of land to maintain. Much of the area is prone to flooding, rubbish and debris is often dumped on sections, and the rough and uneven terrain makes the upkeep a real challenge.
But The Plant People are proud to be doing our bit towards the earthquake recovery process. Take a look at some recent images of the work we do in our effort to help clear up and maintain Christchurch’s Red Zones. And no, the camera is not on an angle in any of these photos, the buildings are slowly sinking!
