Golfers rejoice! With Reno Week finalised, you can now swing in to more action in the lush green manicured grass at the Pegasus Golf Course.
While Reno week may seem a bit of an inconvenience for golf enthusiasts, the end results are well worth it. The Plant People are delighted to be a part of a green-renovation programme that enables them to maintain healthy high quality manicured turf grass for all the Golfers at Pegasus.
For a golfer, the fair test of golf lies in the quality of the golf course! Providing the proper environment for development and maintenance of high quality healthy turfgrass plants is a key goal of golf-course superintendents and ground-maintenance managers. This goal can be achieved by implementing an effective and economic greens-renovation program.
Green renovation programs involve taking existing greens and using certain methods of modification to renew and restore the turf grass by removing organic matter. This helps the greens to be smooth and firm. It also creates a healthy environment for the plant to survive and recover after play, and by adding better drainage it lowers the chance of disease, and allows longer root depth causing less stress on the plant allowing the surface to come back to its original high quality condition.
So what did Plant People do in the Green Renovation program? The extensive renovation program conducted at Pegasus by Plant People consists of a combination of the following operations:
- Traditional hollow-tine coring with 8mm core
- Dethatching – scarifying with 1mm blades
- Cores and grass debris
- Major topdressing of turf stand
- Application of plant nutrients
- and Broadcast overseeding – with Browntop Arrowtown
The renovations which were completed by 15 September 2015 give another reason to members and guests to enjoy the tournament-quality greens this year-round. The grass is stronger now and can now take the heat well. The verdict is also out and golf members are rejoicing with the renovated turf. Happy hitting this summer!
