Located just minutes north of Christchurch is the Pegasus Golf Course, a parklands-style, par 72, 18-hole championship course. The Plant People‘s Christchurch team are responsible for ongoing maintenance of the golf course, ensuring these impeccable fairways and manicured greens continue to look their best.
Adding to their fleet, The Plant People are excited about the recent purchase of two greens mowers – the Jacobsen Eclipse 322 – and two Fairway mowers – the Jacobsen LF570. Here are some interesting facts about these new beasts!
Eclipse 322 – Greens Mowers
- Eclipse is state of the art technology.
- Featuring a hybrid diesel engine, the mower and cutting units are completely driven by electrics, so there’s no hydraulic oil.
- The Plant People are the first company to have 15 blade reels in New Zealand; the previous mowers had 11 blades. This allows for a tighter cut to provide better golf ball roll on the greens.
- These machines provide a huge fuel saving, using only 3 litres to mow all of our greens compared to the older mowers which used 10 litres.
- The new mowers have an inbuilt computer which allows the driver to change mowing and transport speeds, frequency of cut and a whole bunch more technical stuff!
Jacobsen LF570 – Fairway mowers
- While the latest model Jacobsen has bought out is fairly similar to our old mowers, they’re a lot more user friendly.
- Similar to the Eclipse mowers, the Jacobsen mowers have an on-board computer system, allowing the driver to set an accurate mow speed. In the past this was done by the feel of operator which often resulted in an inconsistent cut.
- Again, the new mowers are also hydraulic driven.
The next time you’re out on the greens, keep a look out for The Plant People‘s new mowers.
