We’re extremely proud to learn this week that the Pegasus Golf Course – maintained by The Plant People – has been rated #14 on Australian Golf Digests’s 2016 list of New Zealand’s Top 40 Golf Courses.

AGD rate golf courses based on several criteria:

  1. Shot value: assessing variety of risk/reward, length, accuracy and finesse
  2. Resistance to Scoring: how difficult is the course for a scratch player from the back tees?
  3. Design Variety: assessing variety in length, configuration, hazards and greens
  4. Memorability: how well do the design features provide individuality to each hole yet a collective continuity to the entire 18?
  5. Aesthetics: how well do the scenic values of the course add to the pleasure of a round?
  6. Conditioning: assessing how firm, fast and rolling were the fairways, and how firm yet receptive were the greens
  7. Ambience: assessing the overall feel and atmosphere of the course

This is what AGD had to say about Pegasus Golf Course:

The Pegasus Golf and Sports Club hosted the New Zealand Women’s Open in 2010, ‘11 and ‘12. The course itself boasts a majestic layout with varying degrees of difficulty aimed at providing an excellent golfing experience. The front nine is quite open while the back nine loops around the property with water coming into play on seven of the nine holes. Just 30 minutes north of Christchurch, put Pegasus on your to-do list.

Pegasus out-ranked some of New Zealand’s more well-known courses including Queenstown Golf Course (39), Formosa (33) and Clearwater (17) – which has hosted he NZPGA Championship and more recently the ISPS Handa NZ Women’s Open won by Lydia Ko.
