Auckland is a city known for its style and stunning natural beauty spots.

Now, visitors arriving into Aotearoa’s largest metropolitan city from around the world will see some breathtaking art work and stunning landscapes before even leaving the airport.

The Plant People have transformed the drive in and out of Auckland International Airport by converting one of their major roundabouts into a sculptural showpiece. A nine-metre kinetic sculpture known as ‘Tuwing’ now adorns a flat lawn round about which has been completely modernised by the Auckland based professional landscape company.

Simon Farrell, residential landscape manager at the Plant People, says the makeover of the plain traffic circle is part of Auckland Airport’s whole movement toward beautifying the airport and surrounding industrial area.

The kinetic creation is a design by award winning Kiwi sculptor Phil Price, and was donated to the airport by Brick Bay Winery at Snells Beach, where it was previously displayed.

The wind driven showpiece will now be a permanent dancing display for visitors coming to and from the city.

“Tuwing is a landmark piece of sculpture,” says Simon, adding that Auckland International Airport is “delighted with the project”.
