In March 2010, The Plant People purchased their first diesel powered cut and collect Walker ride on mower for catcher mowing works at the Pegasus Town site in North Canterbury.
A high output machine was required to carry out the cut and collect mowing works on the Lake Reserve comprising 35,000 m2 of grass being cut approximately 32 times per year. In addition there is also 7 kilometres of stormwater treatment swales to be catcher mowed.
OMC demoed several machines but the diesel powered Walker MDD proved to cater best for our all round needs says Project Manager Jason Higgott. Two mowing decks (36 inch & 52 inch) were also purchased to cover the differing requirements of the tight swales and larger reserve areas. A high lift catcher was also fitted which makes emptying of the catcher a breeze. The mowing unit can also be used for cut and discharge work by fitting a deflector shoot in to the catcher. In it’s first year of operation over 800 hrs were put on the clock.
We have been rapt with the performance of this machine and the backup support provided by Manfred and Bernard Watt and their team at OMC says Jason.
The Plant People currently have 6 Walker mowers, 1 Kubota upfront and 2 Kubota tractors in their mowing fleet.
