Ngahau – it means fun – the simple, carefree word that provided the inspiration for this playground constructed in the new residential development at Totara Heights.
Situated on the outskirts of suburban Manukau, Fletcher Living’s Totara Heights subdivision backs onto the sprawling, 216 ha rural Totara Park. An oasis of farmland and native bush, the Auckland Regional Park brings nature to your doorstep. Ideal space for walks, horse riding, swimming and other outdoor family pursuits. Totara Park also borders the wonderful Auckland Botanic Gardens to the south.
During those in-between times where residents are not exploring the surrounding parks, they can go get some ngahau nui at the fantastic playground, commission by Fletcher Living and constructed by The Plant People, and nestled at the entrance to the Totara Heights development.
The playground design was provided by Bespoke Landscape Architects with the various playground components from Playground Installations.
The playground features quirky, irregular shapes throughout the timber framework of the various structures. The hero piece in the playground is a delightful little playhouse. Timber was 100% sourced from managed forests. All designed to fuel a child’s wild imagination.
The Plant People’s Construction division had the contract to build the playground, while our Landscaping team provided the surrounding planting and soft landscaping to complete the playground construction project. Our landscaping team’s responsibilities extended beyond the playground as they completed revegetation planting and street-lining trees throughout the new development.
This playground construction project was designed to satisfy the open space requirement of Auckland Council’s resource consent approval for the residential development.
Fletcher Living’s master plan includes 98 homes and offers a well-balanced development, with a variety of homes to suit a range of buyers. Some three- and four-bedroom homes are on the market now while others are in the construction phase, due for release in the coming months.
The good news is that the playground construction project has been completed within its projected schedule by The Plant People and is open to the public – Totara Heights residents or otherwise – right now. Ngahau, indeed!
