Our wholesale nursery is growing plants that are used in many of Auckland’s newest residential subdivisions.
You can find our plants in street landscaping, individual gardens and most importantly in public spaces in developments such as Millwater and Long Bay in Auckland’s north, Swanson in the west and Takanini and Beachlands in the south. We’re regenerating natural wetland environments for a greener Auckland.
Like so many countries around the world, New Zealand has experienced rapid change over the last 180-or-so years. A sharp increase in population has led to increased agriculture, deforestation and a 90% loss of our natural wetland environments. The good news is that we as a nation have become acutely aware of our responsibilities to the environment and are committed to bringing back our native flora wherever we can.
At Signature Plants we’re proud to be a part of the solution in Auckland. For nearly a decade we’ve specialised in growing native species such as manuka, kanuka and various wetland grasses, trees and shrubs.
These plants are often used at various stages of Auckland’s new residential subdivisions where other The Plant People divisions are also involved.
For example, our Construction division may have completed a stormwater pond to capture rainwater runoff within a new development. As part of our collective approach to environmental impact reduction, these ponds are multi-purposed as wetland areas that provide a home to wildlife and a recreational park to new residents.
Once our construction crew have completed the stormwater pond, pathways, boardwalks and pedestrian bridges, our landscape crew will plant these areas with native plants and wetland species that support clean waterways and promote healthy, green environments.
Going beyond native regeneration, you can find some of our plants lining the streets of new subdivisions, such as Long Bay on Auckland’s North Shore. Additionally, some of our plants are growing within individual properties within these developments.
Signature Plants Production
We’re growing plants all day, everyday. Our potting machine works virtually around the clock! At Signature Plants we’re growing for our partner and largest client, The Plant People. We’re also supplying plants to landscapers and developers, big and small, local to our Dairy Flat and Oratia operations.
We always have stock on hand and often are able to fulfill urgent orders as demand requires. Otherwise we’re providing a contract growing service to supply predetermined landscaping projects that are planned out months in advance.
While 95% of our production is in native species, we’re perfectly placed for producing exotics that are in demand for commercial and residential landscaping projects.
You can find some well-established trees, grown by Signature Plants, providing shade and natural beauty at a number of Auckland schools including Flat Bush and Kumeu schools. Mature plants such as Titoki, Genko and Magnolia offer instant beautification.
Future Growth
Our highly skilled team are looking to expand our range and volume of general landscaping plants. Our position in Dairy Flat offers a wonderful connection to Auckland’s northern agricultural belt, and we’re aiming to strengthen our connection with local landscapers.
